Imagining what it will be like.

Today I had a nice day off.  Since coming home from Hawaii last Friday, its been quite busy with classes and a hula competition in Tokyo.  Erisa Ipo and I spent the day looking for pens for my sister and buying other omiyage for my family.  We ate pasta at Cozy Corner and then went to Enospa Onsen.

Right now, I am still at home waiting as my departure time from home nears.  I am totemo sabishi because hitori de ikemasu.  To pass the time, I have been staring at my computer for the past 3-hours.  I even wrote a cute song.  Sometime, I would like to sing it for you.  Oh, as you read the lyrics think of me-Hikari floating away, and slowly nearing those diamonds in the middle of the sea-Hawaii.  Me ke aloha pumehana Hikari.

Pull up the shades
After six-hours on the plane
I see home up ahead
Sweet oh Diamond Head

Soon I wanna lay on warm sand
Listen to a Hawaiian band
On my island

And right before the wheels
Touch ground
From my window I look
around
To see the rain of manoa
My happy rainbow

Not too long i'll be
In the waves
Like those good old days
On my island

Hawaii is calling me
It's breeze beckoning me
To come home safely
and touch the shores

In the mountains I love to pray
Mahalo ke Akua everyday
While on my island

Halau Kawailiula & Chinky Mahoe

Heres a video link of me when I was a dancer with Kawailiula.  I started dancing with Kumu Chinky Mahoe when I was 18.  I joined his halau right after I finished St. Louis High School.  The story of how I met Chinky goes like this.  There was a reunion concert for a choir (Honolulu Boy Choir)  I used to belong too.  The concert was held at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.  Kumu Chinky was the kumu for the choir back then.  Meeting Kumu Chinky that night was a very memorable experience for me.  He was then as he is now a very  kind gentleman.  We became friends immediately and our friendship endures till this day.  Kumu Chinky is much more than a kumu hula,  he is a very talented crafter, flower arranger, musician, etc.  I have learned many things from him besides hula, for example: how to be a good organizer.  Another wonderful quality about Chinky is his never ending aloha for others.   He seems to always be wanting to share of his time to help others, and he seems so satisfied and happy when doing so.  May God continue to bless Kumu Chinky and halau Kawailiula. Me ke aloha Hikari

Aloha Ahiahi Kakou

The day has finished. Ipo and I had a very nice day today. We woke up early and went for a run around Ala Moana beach park. After the run, we cooked stew for our halau brother's (Kuakapu) aha aina. Tonight, Ipo and I got to see all of our halau ohana that we havent seen for quite sometime now. Many many musicians came to play music: Del Beazley, Brian Tolentino, Dwight Kanae, Kuana Torres, Ioane Burns, Lorna Lim, Wailau Ryder, Jerry Santos, Haunani Apoliona, Kamalani Blaine Kia, Snooky and Colsen Kanei. Our hula brother received a lot of flowers and lei. Kua was the nicest person. God bless the Hewett ohana.

Meiji Jingu Shrine

Ipo and I visited Meiji Jingu Shrine in Tokyo a few weeks ago.  Behind us is a natural spring which is said to be very pure.  We had a very enjoyable time walking through the many trees, all of which were hand planted some 90-years ago for Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken.  If and when you are in Tokyo,  this shrine is located near to Harajuku station.  Maybe you will need 2 hours to  holoholo.  Aloha Hikari

Car washing is Pau!

I finished washing the car. The sky was very beautiful but the air was chotto chilly. Saw our neighbor Eri and talked with her for a little while about today's surf. I can't understand surfing during winter. It's totemo samui but still people love to catch waves in the cold ocean. Anyway, informed her that Shitigahama had a nice break. Ok car is pau I can go back into my warm home and maybe drink some Blue Mountain coffee from Cafe Kubo.

A beautiful day in Japan

Aloha from Japan. Today is February 8, 2013.   I started the day today teaching my regular class at Enospa.   After my class, along with Ipo we drove up the cost to Bills, a restaurant facing Shirigahama.  Bills pancakes are truly delicious.  It is 14:00 now, and have been looking for new apps for my iPad.  I am procrastinating going outside into the cold to wash my car.   I'm going to do it soon.  Hope everyone is doing well and doing what you love to do.
